Measuring Our Success

Waste Water

At JSW Steel, we have implemented water-efficient technologies to ensure the maintenance of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) across our operations. All our plants have achieved and continue to maintain ZLD status, ensuring no wastewater is released into the natural environment.
Treated water is effectively reused in key operations such as slag cooling and granulation. We also manage sewage through dedicated treatment plants and recover quality water via reverse osmosis for horticulture. In water-starved regions, we supply recycled water for irrigation to support local communities.

Targets

We are committed to long-term water security and environmental protection through a single-minded objective:

Our Primary Goal

Maintain Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) status across all major manufacturing facilities.

Key Initiatives

The installation of ZLD systems remains a primary strategic priority, ensuring that all wastewater is thoroughly treated, recycled, and reused within our processes. Key measures include:

Facility / Focus Area Key Interventions
Vijayanagar Unit Reuse of converter jacket water for recirculation in the SMS-2 process and implementation of blow down water recycle & reuse systems.
Dolvi Unit Process optimisation and significant improvements in the recycling and reuse of treated effluent water.
Salem Unit Utilization of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) water for blast furnace cooling, reducing dependence on freshwater.
Raigarh Unit Replacement of freshwater with treated wastewater in the sinter primary mixing drum.
Universal Standards Thorough treatment, recycling, and internal reuse protocols to ensure zero discharge to the natural environment.
