Our operations are guided by a commitment to engage with these communities in a respectful and constructive manner, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights upheld. Through dedicated policies and initiatives, we strive not only to safeguard Indigenous communities but also to empower them to thrive alongside our growth and development.
Our Policy Framework is guided on the three principles:
Acknowledging and respecting the rights of Indigenous communities across all areas of our operations.
Ensuring that any engagement with Indigenous communities is conducted transparently and based on informed consent.
Recognizing and valuing the cultural heritage and traditional knowledge of Indigenous peoples.
Prior to commencing new projects or expansions of existing operations, we undertake detailed assessments of our operations, past and present, to identify any instances where activities might impact them. These assessments consider local traditions, cultural practices, customary rights, traditional knowledge and reliance on natural resources. We regularly review assessment findings to ensure they accurately represent Indigenous Peoples' perspectives, knowledge, and culture while delivering promised benefits, protecting their rights, and meeting their aspirations.
Our engagement activities are designed to provide relevant information in an accessible manner, encourage constructive participation and allow communities sufficient time to evaluate potential impacts and proposed mitigation measures. Through continuous engagement, we aim to build understanding, strengthen relationships and promote mutually beneficial outcomes.
We recognize the strong connection Indigenous Peoples maintain with their lands, cultural heritage, natural resources and traditional knowledge systems. We are committed to identifying, protecting and preserving cultural heritage that may be affected by our operations and development activities.
Our approach seeks to avoid or minimize impacts on culturally significant sites, traditional practices and community resources while promoting respect for Indigenous customs, values and ways of life. We also strive to support the social and economic well-being of Indigenous communities through responsible business practices, community development initiatives and opportunities that contribute to sustainable livelihoods and long-term resilience.
Further, our Cultural Heritage Policy states our commitment to understanding and minimizing our impact on cultural heritage, both past and present. We evaluate our operations, products, and activities, to mitigate any negative effects, in both new and existing projects. We prioritize respect of cultural heritage among our suppliers and partners, focusing on protecting and promoting India's unique heritage. Our dedication extends to meeting all statutory and voluntary obligations related to cultural heritage conservation.
We maintain transparent, accessible and culturally appropriate mechanisms through which Indigenous Peoples and affected communities can raise concerns, provide feedback and seek resolution of issues related to our activities. Grievances are reviewed and addressed in a fair, timely and respectful manner, and lessons learned are used to strengthen our management approaches and stakeholder relationships.
Where relocation or resettlement is required, we implement appropriate Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs) and Livelihood Restoration Plans (LRPs) in accordance with applicable standards and our Indigenous Peoples and Resettlement Policy. We conduct periodic audits and assessments of these programs to evaluate implementation effectiveness, monitor livelihood restoration outcomes, review compensation measures and identify opportunities for improvement. Progress is tracked through regular reporting, ensuring that the needs and rights of affected communities are adequately addressed and that corrective actions are implemented where necessary.
We aim to minimize the negative impacts of displacement by providing fair compensation, additional assistance, and protecting customs and traditions while exploring options for return where possible. We engage the community to prepare an engagement plan and obtain Free Prior Informed Consent for all future projects while ensuring access to resources and implementing agreed actions within measurable time frames.
