A Different Mettle — JSW Steel

A DIFFERENT METTLE

Every era demands a different kind of strength. There are moments when progress is measured by how much we build and there are moments which is defined by how we build—through vision, discipline and the courage to think differently. We believe India has entered one such moment, one where the way we build matters as much as what we build.

As the nation evolves, so must the enterprises that help build it. For us, it has meant redefining what leadership in steelmaking looks like. Leadership today is expressed not only through the scale of our ambitions, but through the discipline in our capital allocation, the intelligence of our operations, the innovation behind our products, the strength of our partnerships and the responsibility with which we create enduring value for society and the environment.

As India accelerates its industrial transformation, steel is becoming far more than a material for construction. It is enabling cleaner energy, advanced mobility, resilient infrastructure and globally competitive manufacturing. Supporting this future requires more than scale. It demands resilience with responsibility, ambition with discipline, and innovation with purpose.

This is the standard we hold ourselves to. This is what it means to be made of a different mettle.

Partnering for a Stronger Balance Sheet

PARTNERING FOR A
STRONGER BALANCE SHEET

The quality of growth is just as important, if not more. For JSW Steel, every decision and balance-sheet action is guided by a sharper principle: build scale with discipline and create enduring value with resilience.

As the steel industry enters a new cycle of opportunity, we have evolved our approach to growth – from one that is driven primarily by capacity and volumes, to one that is supported by greater financial strength, capital efficiency and disciplined execution. This new playbook is a deliberate shift towards preserving balance-sheet agility while continuing to invest in long-term competitiveness. During FY 2025-26 alone, we reduced our net debt by approximately ₹22,693 crore, a milestone that reflects disciplined capital allocation, robust cash generation and proactive portfolio actions. The result is a healthier capital structure with greater financial flexibility and the confidence to pursue future opportunities.

This discipline extends beyond debt reduction. We are creating room for the next growth cycle through recalibrated leverage thresholds, improved margins, stronger cash flows and a declining net debt-to-EBITDA trajectory, thus demonstrating that growth and financial prudence can advance together.

A defining feature of this approach is the strategic use of partnerships, not as a funding mechanism but as an accelerator of value creation. Through these collaborations, we are unlocking scale, expanding capabilities and accessing complementary strengths while maintaining capital efficiency and preserving strategic flexibility.

What the partnership-led model enables
Creating value through collaboration and shared expertise
Deploying capital where it creates differentiated returns
Sharing risk where it enhances resilience
Maintaining the financial capacity to act decisively when opportunities emerge

Every phase of national transformation is built on the foundation of materials, infrastructure and industrial capability. As India accelerates the creation of world-class infrastructure, expands its manufacturing base and advances its energy transition, the demands on the steel industry are changing fundamentally. Sure, the future will require more steel. But the engineering of this steel will be vastly different from the past.

The sectors driving India’s next wave of growth are also redefining what steel must deliver. Electric vehicles need stronger, but lighter material. Renewable energy and transmission infrastructure demand advanced electrical steels capable of improving efficiency and performance. High-speed rail, urban transit systems, defence platforms, aerospace programmes, data centres and advanced manufacturing ecosystems increasingly rely on specialised grades designed for precision, durability and sustainability. In other words, steel needs to be more sophisticated and more technology-intensive than ever before.

At JSW Steel, we have been preparing for this shift ahead of time. Years of sustained investment in research, product development and technology have enabled us to build one of India’s most diversified portfolios of value-added and specialised steels, which today account for 61% of our sales mix. During FY 2025-26 alone, we developed 182 new steel grades and products, and filed 40 patents. Whether enabling energy-efficient transformers through advanced electrical steel, supporting electric mobility with next-generation materials, or developing specialised grades for defence, railways and engineering applications, our innovation agenda is closely aligned with the industries that will define India’s next decade.

Innovation is being reinforced through strategic partnerships with global technology leaders such as JFE Steel and POSCO, continued investments in electrical steel, green steel and downstream capabilities, and a manufacturing ecosystem designed to translate ideas into industrial scale. Together, these investments are strengthening our ability to deliver differentiated products while reducing India’s dependence on imported high-value steels. Our expansion roadmap is the natural extension of this strategy. As we build towards 62 MTPA of capacity in India and 78 MTPA including joint ventures by FY 2031-32, we are creating far more than additional capacity.

We are building the scale, technologies and manufacturing capabilities required to support India’s industrial ambitions for decades to come.

Steel Made Intelligent

STEEL MADE
INTELLIGENT

For decades, steelmaking has been defined by scale, operational excellence and engineering expertise. Today, intelligence is emerging as a new source of competitive advantage. Across JSW Steel, digital technologies, automation and AI are being embedded into the operating fabric of the business, transforming how decisions are made, assets are managed and value is created.

From manufacturing and mining to supply chain, sales, safety and sustainability, digital systems are enabling a more connected and responsive enterprise. Real-time data, predictive insights and AI-powered recommendations are helping teams anticipate issues, optimise performance and improve decision-making across the value chain.

At the heart of this evolution is a rapidly expanding digital ecosystem. Over 20,000 sensors deployed under the Condition-based Monitoring Programme continuously track equipment health and process performance, enabling predictive maintenance and real-time operational intelligence.

During FY 2025-26, these capabilities helped save more than 37,000 operational hours, directly enhancing production throughput, enhancing asset reliability and reducing unplanned downtime. Complemented by Digital Twins, advanced analytics and AI-enabled models, we are continuously improving process stability, product quality and resource efficiency across our operations.

AI is also reshaping commercial and supply chain operations. Intelligent optimisation tools are enhancing inventory planning, dispatch efficiency and customer service performance, while initiatives such as the TEJAS optimisation platform, Project Drishti’s mine-to-metal intelligence layer, the Enterprise Data Lake and JSW Vision.AI are creating a digital backbone that connects operations, data and business outcomes in real time.

Our focus is on building an enterprise-wide intelligence ecosystem rather than deploying standalone technologies. Through deeper IT-OT integration, Private 5G connectivity, computer vision, machine learning and advanced process control systems, our Company is creating a steelmaking environment where equipment can predict failures, processes can self-optimise and decisions can be guided by real-time insights.

By embedding AI, automation and data-led decision-making across the enterprise, JSW Steel is creating a manufacturing ecosystem that can anticipate, adapt and optimise in real time.
